The 9th Annual Multnomah County Family Violence Coordinating Council event and Judge Herrell Award Presentation was held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 here in Portland. The Judge Herrell Award is for Outstanding Collaborative Efforts to End Family Violence and is given annually to individuals or groups who carry out Judge Herrell’s work to improve the safety of survivors of domestic violence and their families in Multnomah County. This year’s well deserving recipients were Education Coordinator Megan Kovacs, Raphael House of Portland, Officer Dan Romanowski, Portland Police Bureau, and Director Martha Strawn Morris of The Gateway Center for Domestic Violence Services.
This great event was another opportunity to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness month and we were fortunate to be hosted by the Honorable Judge Amy Holmes Hehn. The Honorable Judge Maureen McKnight and Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill were guest speakers. Presenters included Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman, Portland Police Bureau Assistant Chief Donna Henderson and Director Teri Lorenzen, Raphael House of Portland. Also attending and joining in the celebration from the District Attorney’s office with Mr. Underhill were Paul Weatheroy, Chief Investigator and Manager of Victim Services, Victim Advocates Emily Hyde, Ella Santellano, Saron Nehf and Ila Christy. For those who worked with Judge Herrell we know he would have been humbled and proud of our community and the work we do.
