We want to recognize that today is the last day of a very important month. Below we’ve summarized the busy month of April that many people in the office have been involved in. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and April 19 – 25 Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This office has been very involved in activities commemorating both.

On Monday, April 6, 2015 the Multnomah County Justice Reinvestment Summit took place; crime victims were a focus of the summit.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2015, DA Underhill co-presented a proclamation to the Board of County Commissioners; Chair Kafoury and the commissioners proclaimed April 19 – 25 Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The same day, Commissioner Loretta Smith sponsored a proclamation proclaiming the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention month in Multnomah County.

DA Rod Underhill was a part of a panel discussing Sexual Assault Victim Rights Across Campus, Civil & Criminal Justice Systems at a seminar “Engaging Communities, Empowering Victims” sponsored by the Oregon Department of Justice and Portland State University on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.

In addition, The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office Victims Assistance Program was featured in the Wednesday Wire four weeks in a row. Thank you to all the staff of the Victims Assistance Program which is managed by Elli Work. The links below highlight the good work they do:

On Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse the Victim Assistance Programs of the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office partnered and hosted a presentation “Indicators of Human Trafficking.” The event also honored Sexual Assault Victim Advocate volunteers (SAVA) and was held in connection with Sexual Assault Awareness Month. J.R. Ujifusa and Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Bolstad were the featured presenters. Thank you Ila Christy for all of your hard work in putting this event together.
