Misdemeanor Trial and Intake Units

The Misdemeanor Intake Unit screens all non-domestic violence misdemeanor cases submitted to the office from local law enforcement agencies.

The Misdemeanor Trial Unit is responsible for litigating misdemeanor and traffic crimes and ordinance violations. Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Misdemeanor Hit and Run, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Resisting Arrest, various weapon possession, and Theft in the Second Degree are examples of the cases handled by the Misdemeanor Trial Unit. In addition to Deputy District Attorneys, certified law students and attorneys from local civil firms (working in the office through the American College of Trial Lawyers’ Jury Trial Experience Project) work to process many of the 14,000 misdemeanor cases issued every year by the District Attorney’s Office.
